Sandustry plants

Sandustry plants are a production chain, not decoration. Steam says watered seeds bloom into flowers that you can ignite for resources. Official pages exist for Seed, Wet Seed, Flower, Moss, Amethelis, Dry Amethelis, Voidbloom, and several void parts. Demo Hotfix 8 rewrote the flower algorithm after plants became unruly. Official store copy, the Hooded Horse wiki roster, and Steam patch notes are the only sources for numbers on this page. Community names stay in the alias column.

Grow on purpose

Planter Boxes are the official farm tile. They want soil and a seed. Water the seed. Wait for a Flower. Harvest petals or ignite the plant, depending on the product you need. Free-range flowers on the overworld follow the same water rule and are harder to automate. Moss is an official organic pixel that will carry fire into places you did not intend.

Spores from the Kinetic Press are a seed source tied to the Residue loop. That is why a gold factory and a farm should share a waste belt instead of living on opposite sides of the map.

Amethelis and void flora

Amethelis petals are the botanical mid-product. Mix them toward Voidbloom with Redsand when you want Fluxite. Dry them toward Florin when you want the Energy chain. Those are two different wallets. Void Seed, Void Petal, Void Husk, and Void Juice have official names and incomplete public recipes. They stay listed on the materials roster. They do not get a fake planter guide here.

The Flux Emanator is the plant-adjacent machine that actually prints Fluxite. It wants Voidbloom under a single tile. Community lines keep one Emanator and overflow extra petals into storage rather than planting a field of unused flowers.

Hotfix 8 changed the garden

Steam’s Demo Hotfix 8 post is first-party: a new flower algorithm, plants less unruly, and an explicit invitation to notice the differences. If an old video shows infinite flower spam, treat it as pre-hotfix footage. The Control-to-replace-buildings change in the same patch is how you edit a planter row without deleting the soil under it.

Fire is a harvester

Steam’s sentence about igniting flowers is easy to skip and expensive to ignore. Some products want a burn, not a basket. Build the Planter Box with a one-tile fire lane and a Block curb so Moss cannot walk the flame into the Residue strip. Hotfix 8 made plants less chaotic, which makes planned burns safer, not optional.

If you only need Amethelis petals, harvest without fire. If you only need ash-like products, burn. If you do not know, do not burn the whole row. The official flower page exists; it does not publish a full drop table, so this guide stops at the two verbs Steam already gave you: water, then optionally ignite.

More detail worth keeping

Plants are slow logistics. They do not replace a Shaker. They feed the second wallet and the energy chain. Build them after the gold line is boring. Give them soil, water, and a curb. Decide harvest versus ignite before you light the row. Remember Hotfix 8 exists so old YouTube gardens are historical footage. If a creator still shows flower lava, check the upload date against February 2025. Early Access in August 2026 is a different garden. Void flora is optional spice. Amethelis is the petal you actually need for Fluxite. Dry Amethelis is the petal you need for Energy. Do not throw both into the same chest and hope.

Practice that survives a patch

Soil is a pixel. If you do not belt it, you will run out of it in the same way you run out of Sand. Press spores are the documented refill. That single fact is why the Residue burn lane and the garden belong on the same floor. Carry spores ten screens because a YouTube base looked pretty and you will hate flowers by night two.

Close the loop

Count Planter Boxes like you count Shakers. Two is a farm. Twelve is a second game you are not ready to play. Grow the two until the Emanator is fed, then stop.

Moss is a fuse. If you leave Moss against a wooden-looking organic and then test a Flamethrower, you will learn this without a wiki. Learn it here instead.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Planter Boxes in the first hour?

No. Get Gold and Logistics first. Plants start to matter when you want Fluxite upgrades.

Why did my flowers take over the factory?

That was the pre-Hotfix 8 behavior. Current builds are calmer. Still keep fire away from Moss.

Are void plants required?

Only if you are chasing Fluxite or void-named products. The gold loop does not need them.
