Sandustry materials

Sandustry materials are individual pixels with density, temperature, and reactions. This roster lists every official wiki material page that existed on 15 August 2026. Empty density cells are unpublished, not zero. Community names such as Slag sit in the alias column next to official Residue. Official store copy, the Hooded Horse wiki roster, and Steam patch notes are the only sources for numbers on this page. Community names stay in the alias column.

How to read the roster

Official infobox fields are Interactions, Density, Matter Type, Obtained From, Processed By, Byproducts, Burnable, Wettable, and Launchable. We keep that skeleton. Gold is the only solid with a published density of 300. Water is the only fluid with a published density of 100. Everything else waits for a first-party number.

Starter loop materials are Sand, Wet Sand, Water, Gold, and Residue. Mid-game adds Redsand, Amethelis, Voidbloom, and Fluxite. Heat is Lava, Scoria, Cinder, Fire. Cold is Ice, Snow, Steam when it condenses. Ancient and power pixels such as Auralite, Florinol, and Energy exist as named pages even when their machines are still redlinks.

Core refining pixels

Sand plus Water makes Wet Sand at 1+1=2. Wet Sand on a Shaker becomes Gold and Residue. Residue burns to Burnt Residue and then a Kinetic Press. That is the entire early economy. Dry Sand on a Shaker is a stall.

Wet SandShakerGold + Residue

Redsand is denser than surface Sand and feeds the Fluxite botanical loop when mixed toward Voidbloom. Demo Hotfix 8 reduced rocket mining as a Redsand strategy. Use belts and filters, not explosives, once you live in red layers.

NameAliasesCategoryDensityObtainedProcessedSummary
SandsurfaceSurface dig, Dirt layersWater contactStarter granular solid. Mixes with Water into Wet Sand. Dry Sand on a Shaker produces no Gold.
Wet Sandsurface150Sand + WaterShakerOfficial density 150. Sand + Water makes Wet Sand at 1:2 (one water). Only this state belongs on a Shaker. Gold falls through; Residue stays on top.
Goldproduct300Shaker on Wet Sand, Kinetic Press on Burnt ResidueResearch spendHeaviest printed pixel (density 300). Research currency only after it sits in a Collector. Can smelt to Liquid Gold and still count. Shaker chance about 1 in 4.
ResidueSlagbyproduct50ShakerFire, Lava, Kinetic Press after burnOfficial density 50. Official name Residue (community: Slag). Every Shaker Wet Sand makes one Residue. Fire: each pixel has a 25 percent chance to become Burnt Residue, else it is consumed.
Burnt ResidueBurnt SlagbyproductBurned ResidueKinetic PressResidue after fire. Drop at least 25 blocks onto a Kinetic Press for 1 Gold + 1 Seed. Too little height and it just sits.
Waterfluid100Lakes, Melted Ice, Burned SnowSand wetting, Heat, ColdOfficial density 100. Heats to Steam, freezes to Ice. Sand drinks limited reservoirs. Lumlings are the documented infinite refill. Pipes move it; lava cannot share those pipes.
IcefluidCold Water, Snow + WaterHeat, Flamethrower, LavaSteam page physics: Ice melts when heated. Thick ice walls are a common vault obstacle.
SteamfluidBoiled WaterCooling, RainRises when water boils. Official copy says it can fall again as rain if it reaches the sky.
SnowcoldCold biomesFire, Water, LavaCryoblaster writes infinite Snow. Snow freezes Water, solidifies Lava, or can be steamed into rain.
RedsandRedSanddeepDeeper biomesAmethelis mix, FiltersDenser sand variant used in Fluxite loops. Demo Hotfix 8 reduced rocket spam as a quarry method.
RedsoildeepRed biomesOfficial wiki pixel. Treat as the packed/red-soil companion to Redsand until a full infobox is copied.
FluxiteproductNatural veins, Flux EmanatorInventory upgradesSecond currency. Official beginner page: unlocks upgrades for Grabber, Flamethrower, and Drones.
AmethelisbotanicalFlowersRedsand mix, DryingPetal resource from flowers. Mixed with Redsand toward Voidbloom. Also sits on the energy chain toward Florin.
Dry AmethelisbotanicalDried AmethelisEnergy chainDried petal step on the official energy path: Amethelis → Dry Amethelis → Florin → Florinol.
Voidbloombotanical30Amethelis + RedsandFlux EmanatorOfficial density 30. Void Petals + Redsand. Feed the Flux Emanator 1:1 to grow Fluxite.

Phase-change pixels

Steam’s about text is the physics card: ice melts into water when heated; water turns to steam and rises if boiled; steam can return as rain. Snow can be burned for water. Snow plus water makes Ice. Snow plus lava makes Scoria and consumes the snow. Plan heat before it cooks a wetting tank or floods a vault with steam.

Indestructible pixels mark map bounds and some vault shells. Tools do not delete them. Treat that as a layout constraint, not a bug.

What we refuse to invent

Copper Ore, Liquid Copper, Prismite, Moonhop, Sunsand, and several void parts have official names and no public recipe. They stay on this table so the roster matches the official wiki floor. They do not get fake densities or invented smelter outputs.

How a player uses this table

Sort by category when you are shopping for a loop. Surface pixels feed the Shaker. Fluids feed the tank. Heat pixels feed the burn lane. Botanical pixels feed Fluxite. Ancient and power pixels are late. If a row has no density, do not invent a Filter setting. Split that belt by hand until someone publishes the number.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Slag missing?

It is not missing. The official name is Residue. Slag is the community alias used on sandustry.wiki and older demo guides.

Why are so many densities blank?

Only Gold (300) and Water (100) have first-party numbers we could verify. Blank is more honest than a guessed chart.

Do I need every pixel to finish Early Access?

No. The published win condition is industrial expansion plus ancient vaults. Sand, Water, Gold, Residue, Redsand, Fluxite, and the botanical chain cover the documented currencies.
